Arizona State Parks Proposes Fee Increase for Original Throne Room Tour

(Phoenix, AZ – July 29, 2010) The Arizona State Parks department staff is proposing a fee change for one of the two cave tours at Kartchner Caverns State Park. The new fee proposal is to change the "Rotunda/Throne" adult cave tours from $18.95 to $22.95 and children's fees (7 to 12-year-old) from $9.95 to $12.95 and (6 and under free.) Public comments regarding these fees will be accepted on the website until August 29, 2010. Comments may be submitted online at our website, AZStateParks.com/find/contact.html

The Board will be presented this information from park staff who say this solution will increase income to the park and reduce overhead costs by suspending tours in the Rotunda/Throne room from October 15th until December 15th. This will also allow time for this portion of the cave to have a rest from the public while scientific research can be conducted. There also has been some confusion by the public as to why both cave tours are not priced equally. Both tours are equally magnificent in their own right and staff suggests this should be reflected in admission price.

Comments about these proposed fee increases will be presented to the Arizona State Parks Board at their September 2010 meeting. If the new fees are approved, the fee increases for the "Rotunda/Throne" tours will start on December 15, 2010.
