Wally, a fourth generation native Arizonian, was born in 1942 at Fort Riley Kansas as a result of World War II, thus the claim to be a native of Arizona. He is a 1964 Graduate of the University of Arizona with degrees in Animal Science and Agricultural Economics. After two years on active duty in the U.S. Army, he continued in the Army Reserves and retired in 1994 as a Colonel. While in the Active Reserves he graduated from the US Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, PA.
He joined his father in 1966 in the firm of Walter D. Armer & Associates in the field of agricultural appraising, brokerage, management and consulting. He subsequently earned his MAI and ARA professional appraisal designations and is a licensed Real Estate Broker. He continues in this field as the firm principal and also continues the family ranching tradition in the Benson area.
He has served as President of the Arizona Cattle Grower’s Association, the Southern Arizona Cattlemen’s Protective Association and the UA AG 100, a support group for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the UA Alumni Association, the UA Foundation, the Arizona Beef Council and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. He previously served as a Commissioner on the Commission on the Arizona Environment and on the Arizona State Parks Board.
He and his wife of 45 years, Lew, live in the Vail area southeast of Tucson and are the parents of 2 grown children and 3 grandchildren. In his free time he enjoys horseback riding, reading, travel and UA sports.
